The article considers the problem of the genesis of Chinese culture on the ground of painting tradition of ancient China. The author researches the formation of a special style of Chinese art, which are known as “Mountains and Waters”. And also a symbolic meaning is analyzed, as well as a special structure for arranging the composition of this style. Based on the analysis of traditional painting, some features of the Chinese mentality are revealed. The importance of the triune teaching (Confucianism, Daoism and Buddhism) in the minds of Chinese society is found out. The author reveals the characteristics of the Chinese mentality in terms of its culture and shows the importance of knowing about it.
