In the following article the author examines peculiarities of training linguistic students’ translation competencies and proposes several methods, which could help intensifying the process of education. The author points out that nowadays a proper training of linguists-interpreters, whose knowledges and skills are adequate to the requirements of labour market and employers, appears to be one of the most important issues. The work also provides the list of professional competencies for an interpreter which is used in the Pacific National University. The article examines the main issues, which Chinese language linguistic students face, proposes possible solutions and methods of professional skills training, such as case method, situational tasks, the analysis of audio- or video-materials, which contain actual interpreter’s work, the translation of public speech or movie fragments, training grammar analysis speed exercises, reverse translation method, source and target texts comparison. The author makes a conclusion that training universal interpreters requires mixing different methods of translation competencies development, paying special attention to the practical side of the interpreters’ training.
