The traditional style “Xie Yi” demonstrates the fusion of traditions, culture and art into a single whole. However, the contemporary style “Xie Yi” in oil painting and the traditional style in painting (with ink or watercolor on paper) have a number of differences. At present, the contemporary style in oil painting “Xie Yi” has already absorbed the language of painting of Russian and European fine arts as well as traditional Chinese calligraphy and ink painting. Character “Xie” means “to paint a picture using a brush”, “copy” and “retell”. After the European art got to China, oil painting began to develop here. Luo Gongliu, who studied in Russia and knew European art, thought that the Chinese artists only copied the models of this art in the process of European painting investigation. He urged to unite the traditions of Chinese painting and the achievements of European masters. Luo Gongliu had a great influence on Dai Shihe. Mr. Luo Gongliu said that “essentially the oil painting in the “Xie Yi” style was a new creation of thought”. From the point of view of Mr. Luo Gongliu, the oil painting in the “Xie Yi” style is the mastering of the main features of European oil painting, on one hand, and, on the other hand, the following the traditions of the ancient Chinese style of fine art, namely “the “Xie Yi” style soul”. The Chinese artists in the process of searching for a way of oil painting development in the “Xie Yi” style found out that there are elements of the Chinese “Xie Yi” style in the works of the contemporary European and Russian artists. The art of the soviet painter Evsei Moiseenko is one of such examples. In the works of Moiseenko there are many similarities with the Chinese style “Xie Yi”. St. Petersburg artist Yury Kaliuta is also close to the Chinese “Xie Yi” in his style of painting. Studying of the parallels of the development of Chinese and Russian contemporary painting will allow us to understand the specificity of the development of our national art schools more profoundly.
