Learning phonetics is an important step in teaching Chinese as a foreign language throughout the learning process. At the initial stage of teaching the Chinese language, great attention should be paid to teaching pinyin and tones. Thereafter, pronunciation correction will also become essential throughout the entire learning process, since the ability of students to perceive and reproduce Chinese speech in the communication process will depend on how correctly phonetic knowledge and skills are formed. Therefore, each qualified teacher of Chinese as a foreign language should know the basic principles and methods of teaching phonetics. The article considers principles that should be followed in the process of teaching phonetics of the Chinese language: the target principle of learning, the principle of parallel learning of phonetics and language, the principle of comparison, the principle of teaching from simple to complex, the principle of combining imitation and comprehension. The most common phonetics teaching methods are also presented: demonstration method, image display method, contrast method, etc.
