The evolution and artistic specificity of a Chinese theatre costume, being a reflection of the spiritual culture of China, social world, and traditional values, is shown. The history of a stage costume requires an art analysis, since the subject under study can be considered as a work of art, various in a form, colour, symbolic images and decoration features. The aesthetic preferences of some nationalities that have had a cultural and creative influence on its formation by means of a theatre costume are revealed. The importance of the national costume in creating a system of artistic images inherent in the theatrical art of China is emphasized.
