This article deals with the connections between court women and vernacular prosimetric texts with religious thematic called baojuan (precious scrolls), which constitute a special aspect of the social and cultural background for the growth of this literary form during the Ming dynasty. On the basis of comparison between the materials from different periods the author demonstrates how the baojuan texts of various forms and religious (ideological) contents developed in the inner court environment of the middle 15th — middle 16th century. This research uses materials of rare and unique manuscripts and woodblockprinted copies of baojuan currently kept in the collections of several countries. Several of them have not been discussed in detail in the world sinological scholarship.
