This article presents another attempt to reconstruct the original single meaning of the term qíng 情 which is most important in ancient Chinese discussions and argumentative schemes. Its spectrum of meanings varies from ‘facts’ to ‘feeling’ (which a Western reader would deem opposite to ‘facts’).We also tried to explain the variation of the meanings of qíng 情 on the basis of the semantic transition ‘subject ↔ action / effect / object’ common to natural languages.
