The article is devoted to the study of the genre of "hua-niao" (flowers and birds) as an element of the artistic decor of the ancient Chinese costume. The characteristic features of the clothing of officials of different ranks, including the ones from the imperial court, women's clothing, etc. are highlighted. The examples of the use of images of flowers, birds, animals in the decoration of clothes, taking into account the correlation of their symbols with the social status of a person, are considered.
