In the 4th century, during the political disturbances in China, nomads raided North China and established their states there. The native-born population of the Chinese north was forced to flee south to seek refuge. It brought to the South a high level of culture, which made it possible to realize creative innovations that had originated in the period of the Han dynasty. The assimilation that took place in both the northern and southern territories of China inevitably changed the type of Chinese art, it was enriched with borrowings, which later became an organic part of Chinese culture and made up the originality of the cultural and historical region.
