Founded in 1909, Lanzhou University (LZU) is one of the first universities in China's modern higher education. As the national comprehensive university under the direct authority of the Ministry of Education, LZU is one of the universities supported by the "Project 985" and “Project 211”，and one of the national “Double First-Class” construction universities.
Occupying around 583 acres of land in total, LZU has three campuses and three affiliated hospitals. Also, it has a total of 20,671 undergraduates, 15,069 postgraduates and 5,316 doctor candidates. Currently，LZU has 99 Bachelor’s program, 46 master’s program and 29 Doctoral programs, which covers 12 disciplines, in which the Chemistry, Atmospheric Sciences, Ecology, Grass science are in the list of developing world-class disciplines. Moreover, a total of 17 majors has entered the top 1% of ESI，among which the chemistry and Ecology reaches the top 1‰. So far, LZU has recruited and educated more than 10,000 international students. Currently, there are over 800 international students from more than 40 countries study at Lanzhou University. LZU has jointly established 3 Confucius institutes respectively in Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan and Georgia.
