From 2018 the Association for the Advancement of Sinology has held the largest international annual event in Russia for teachers of the Chinese language - " Open Dialogue"!

We are glad to invite you to become one of the speakers at the 9th Open Dialogue and give a lecture or a master class on the keen questions in the field of teaching the Chinese language. In the frames of sections you'll have a great opportunity to share and discuss with the colleagues your own thoughts related to the most important issues of teaching the Chinese language at schools and online.

This year the Open Dialogue is held in a completely new format - online!

The 9th "Open Dialogue" will be available for 72 hours on a large and well-organized conference platform that will let you communicate with colleagues from all corners of the world at video meetings, sessions, lectures, one-on-one video meetings etc. Moreover, you may also create your own separate sections for discussion.

Our new format has made the Open Dialogue accessible for visitors from anywhere in the world where there is the Internet!

Therefore, 235 people took part in our 9th Open Dialogue. The event was attended not only by teachers, professors, students and school students from Russia, but also by those studying or teaching Chinese from other countries!

In recent years, the interest in learning Chinese has grown rapidly, with more and more children learning it in or outside of schools. Therefore, the purposel of the 9th Open Dialogue is to expand and deepen knowledge in the field of the methods of teaching Chinese to school students.

Formats for Conference Presentations:

Sections
Time limit: 30 minutes (20 minutes is for the speech, 10 minutes is for Q&A). The PowerPoint presentation is required (in English, Chinese or Russian). If you want your presentation to be duplicated in Russian by the team of Association for the Advancement of Sinology, the Power Point presentation must be sent no later than 14 days before the speech.
Lecture
Time limit: 60 minutes.
Master class
It includes a presentation of your achievements, a fragment of classes and work with the audience. Time limit: not more than 90 minutes.
Round Table
You may give a presentation together with your colleagues or we will combine speeches based on topics. Time for 1 presentation is 20 minutes. Time limit for 1 round table: 120 minutes.

Methodical development consists of several elements. All parts are interconnected, they are one complex for teaching vocabulary. The use of an interactive notebook in teaching can only be effective when using all the elements of the complex:
• an interactive exercise book for a student;
• a diary with a set of stickers for the student;
• poster for a student in A4 format;
• a set of basic double-sided maps on topics in A5 format;
• a set of additional cards of A6 format;
• complex of multimedia presentations with exercises for memorizing new words;
• a collection of cartoons and songs, matched to the theme;
• audio materials voiced by a native Chinese speaker.
In the age of information and communication technologies we are dealing with students whose ability to memorize and assimilate information is quite high, therefore the most effective way to present information is to use visual materials. Since preschoolers have developed primarily a figurative memory, visual tools such as toys, drawings, real objects serve not only to reveal the meaning of a word but also to memorize it. The methodological development is fully provided with such materials which makes the process of studying interesting and effective. The illustrations are made in accordance with the age and speech abilities of preschoolers. Many illustrations use "children's humor" - objects of the wrong size, animals of unexpected colors, and others. Visual tools awaken various emotions of students which contributes to faster and easier memorization of the material.

Chinese as a second foreign language at school: problems and prospects

Chinese is one of the six languages, which are currently being studied in Russian schools as the first or the second foreign language. The situation has changed at the state level: the interest of parents and children in learning Chinese has found support in the emergence of the All-Russian Olympiad in the Chinese language, the introduction of the Unified State Examination in Chinese, and the inclusion of several lines of teaching materials in the Federal List of the Ministry of Education. However, most of the school students study Chinese as a second foreign language. The round table will allow discussing both problems and prospects that arise along the way.
